PostSubject: How to Create an RP Table   Thu Jan 04, 2018 6:48 pm

Posting tables

So, after seeing a couple of the users around here becoming more interested in using posting tables recently to use for roleplaying, I have decided to create a topic where you can read about how to create posting tables for yourself! Been working on this for a few days now, so here it is ~

The first thing you should know is, there are always three parts to a posting table - the top, the middle, and the bottom. The top part being for the image you wish to put in, the middle part being for the text and the bottom part can also be used to place an image.

So, how can I make one?

When creating a posting table, always make sure that your using the correct coding for one, which is the following (note: I have placed specific notes within the code so you know where to put the main stuff when creating your posting table. Code:
Code:
<center>
<table style="border:2px solid #INSERT BORDER COLOUR HERE; width:400px; background: url(INSERT IMAGE URL HERE) #INSERT BACKGROUND COLOUR top center no-repeat; padding-top:150px;"><tr><td style="padding:4px; text-align:INSERT FONT TYPE HERE; font-size:10px; color:INSERT FONT COLOUR HERE;"><br />
<br />

<p>Text here</p>

</td></tr></table></center>

And here is what your code should look like after:

Text here

Now, onto what stuff you need to do!

  • Get/create an image for your posting table: As stating beforehand, you are able to place your image within two places, either the top or the bottom. To specify where you want your image, before where is says in the code 'no repeat' simply put either the word top or bottom afterwards, then it'll be in the position you wanted (example: if you wrote bottom before 'no repeat', your image will now be placed at the bottom). In terms of the actual images themselves, you can pretty much whatever image you want, as long as it's appropriate and you haven't committed art theft/illegal use in any way.If your doing a roleplay table to use for roleplay, then it's preferable for you to use an image that is of your character

  • Figure out what colours you wish to use for your posting table: When I say colours, I specifically means the aspects such as the border, the background, font, etc. As a tip, make sure that you are using colours that fits best with the image you wish to use and make sure you aren't using colours that are way to bright or dark, as it can be very hard on the eyes as bearing in mind that other people are obviously going to read your post.

  • Pick a font: When picking what type of font you want to use for your posting table, always attempt to pick a font that is easy to read and one that you personally thinks fit your posting table or what you think you'll be comfortable using. If the font your using it quite small, then remember that you are able to change the size of your font (to do this, simply goto the part of the code where it says 'font-size' and then change the size to whatever you want, for example, size 10).

  • Experiment with your posting table: Obviously, this isn't something that is required, although it is always good to attempt to experiment with your posting table, in order to get whats best for you! For example, you could always try extending the width of your posting table (as I've done with the table I'm posting in currently), change the width of the border, etc. It's up to you as to what you wish to experiment with, but remember, if you accidentally mess up while experimenting with your code

  • it is always recommended to place your code into a separate word/notepad document before experimenting so you can easily recover your code before you tried to experiment, either that or you can simply press control + z in order to undo anything you've done (this method will not work if you have already previewed your table in a post).

  • Put your posting table together!: After you have done all of the above, you should be all set in putting your posting table together by using the code I provided above. Make sure that your putting everything in correctly as if something is not put in correctly, it may mess up the look of your table.

  • If you would like to use a font that isn't default to forumotion, you can go to https://fonts.google.com To add this font to your table is very simple: when you find a font you like, click the + sign next to it and a box will come up. Click it and you'll get the code for the font to add to your table. Simply paste the code on top, insert the code for the font in the right place, and add a tag at the end of your code.

Well, hopefully this tutorial has helped you out! If you feel that something needs to be added to this or if you have a question regarding this tutorial or posting tables, then feel free to contact me Wink Thanks!
