Cedar stumbled slightly in the snow, losing some speed, but she quickly recovered and kept going. She sent a quick glance to her hunting partner, unimpressed when she could see how tired he already looked. As far as she was concerned, she was just getting started... she pressed on, charging for the deer.

The wolf closed his eyes for a second to think of what he could do that could end this hunt once and for all. He was sick of seeing all these fast passing trees and he was slowing down. He was thinking about grabbing the doe's tail and pull it back by biting onto it. He was tired of all this running. He was easily frustrated when stuck in the same situation. Night was coming soon. Cedar was faster than him. He had more strength than her, he could use it to his advantage.

Cedar slowed down again, wary of all the roots and rough terrain in this part of the woods, but she never allowed the deer out of her sight. Deer were flighty animals whose instinct was to never show any weakness, but Cedar could tell that she and Shadow were slowly wearing it down bit by bit and that made her feel more confident about their pursuit.

Like Shadow, Cedar too found herself growing frustrated. Each step she took was beginning to feel more and more pointless. She was almost losing her motivation to continue with this. She considered simply ditching Shadow and the deer and running off somewhere warmer, instead of continuing to waste her time in this dump of the woods. It was supposed to be springtime, yet the snow here never melts! She hadn't cared so much before, but her time spent here had been so wretched, she just wanted to gripe about something.

Too bad she had no one to murder, that was a great way to relieve stress. Maybe Shadow, but he was too strong for her to take in a one-on-one fight.

Cedar's paws ached a bit from the nonstop running. To be honest, she couldn't bring herself to even care. The boredom was killing her and so was the utter monotony of this whole chase. Were either of them going to manage to catch up with the damn beast? Well, Shadow was never going to, but she knew she at least had a shot. So why was it still so far away?

Inspired by a sudden burst of motivation, Cedar picked up her pace. If she gave up now, she would have nothing and may end up prey to that lion. Pushing herself at maximum speed, Cedar finally reached the doe, trailing just slightly behind it. She was tense with anticipation as she charged in for it, ready to nip at its flank.
